Voice Isolation tested for Voice Access

Microsoft have announced an exciting new feature for Voice Access in Windows 11. They're testing an enhancement called 'Voice Isolation' that will allow us to filter out background noise in busy environments. I'm really hoping this will be a game changer for working in an open plan office. The functionality is only currently available for testing through the Windows Insider Programme, so I'll have to wait a little longer to find out.

Key benefits of Voice Isolation

• Improved clarity: By filtering out ambient background sounds, Microsoft claim that users will experience clearer voice recognition, allowing for smoother interactions with devices.

• Accessibility in noisy environments: The improvements mean we should be able to use Voice Access effectively in noisy locations like cafes, on public transport, or in busy offices.

Three speech recognition modes will be available:

• Voice Isolation — Filters out other speakers and background noise (one-time voice setup needed).

• Remove background noise only — Filters out non-speech sounds like typing or door slams. No additional setup needed.

• No filtering — Default microphone input with no additional processing.

Using the Voice Isolation functionality requires following a one time set-up process:

Testing and Feedback

The background noise removal feature is in the testing phase, available to Windows Insiders. If you're a member of the Programme, let Microsoft have your feedback and help them refine the functionality before its public release.
